Memorial Day

Jasmine participated in a ceremony which honored veterans and current military members at the Tidewater Veterans Memorial in VA Beach. Jasmine laid wreaths and said a prayer in memory of our veterans.

June 9

Jasmine participated in the OpSail Festival in Norfolk, VA. This festival celebrates the bicentennial of the War of 1812. Jasmine boarded ships from Brazil, Columbia, London, and Indonesia. She also learned about the Navy divers and the importance of their jobs.

Week of June 18-23

Jasmine went to the Main Library in Newport News and read books about our country. Some favorites were Raising the Flag, Meet Molly An American Girl, and Skyrockets and Snickerdoodles.

Jasmine went to the Virginia War Museum where she was given a personal tour! She presented the museum with a Thank you card for doing such a great job.

June is National Fireworks Safety month and so Jasmine went to some of the local fire stations to personally thank them for keeping our community safe.

Jasmine went to the Newport News Park, which is one of the largest parks in the country! This park isn't just any park, but it is also the site of some of the battles of the Civil War.

June 24-29

Jasmine helped get some old clothes together to donate to the Disabled American Veterans Thrift Store. This thrift store helps to provide assistance to disabled American veterans.

Jasmine went to the American Legion in Newport News, VA and presented them with a personal note of Thanks. The American Legion is an organization that provides many services to veterans.

Jasmine went to the Victory Arch in Newport News and met with Petty Officer Uter of the US Navy. The Victory Arch is very important to our history. Petty Officer Uter explained that when the troops returned to America, they would march under the arch when getting off of their ship. It serves as a memorial dedicated to those who served in the war. He showed Jasmine the names of some of the soldiers who lost their lives during the war.

June 25
Jasmine used First Lady Michelle Obama's Joining Forces campaign to send a message of thanks to a military family. She also wrote a letter to the White House thanking the President and First Lady for doing a great job supporting our troops!

June 26
Jasmine visited an Armed Forces Recruiting station in Hampton, VA and gave them a Thank you card for their service and for doing a wonderful job.

Later that day, Jasmine visited the Hampton VA Medical Center and awarded the staff with a Certificate of Appreciation. They work hard and do such great work with helping and assisting our veterans. Jasmine also saw and met with some of the veterans and thanked them for being an American hero and making our country a safe place to live!
